Airgun Hobbyist
On the optics front, we met up with a couple of
companies doing things for the airgun market:
Optisan Corporation
– this company is out of LaCrosse,
WI and carries a fine lineup of imported scopes with several
variable-power models designed for air rifles. Specialized
coatings and one piece tube construction along with a lifetime
warranty make these scopes attractive options. To find out
more navigate to: www.optisanoptics.com.
Sun Optics
– carries a line of Chinese made scopes that
are impressive. Tim and I spoke with their head of Design/
New Product development, Duane, and he spoke about the
extra QC steps he’s instituted at the factories to maintain the
best quality possible through every step of the manufacturing
process. He showed us their Ultra Variable model, a
5-30x56mm that was extremely clear and bright for under
$400.00. Next we saw the very nice micro version of their
dot sight with a removable hood/shade. They also offer a
dot sight with built-in laser which made for an interesting
combination. To see what else is available please go to: www.
sunopticsusa.com.
Serious airgunnners know the name Chrony and
we had a chance to speak with Mandy, a co-owner of the
company. Their products keep evolving (i.e.: fully digital with
the latest ballistic tables, internet connectivity, remote
controlled, etc.) and she showed us the latest innovation,
the LED Lamp diffuser screens. Known as CLL, the screens
eliminate problems in low-light conditions. Something we
weren’t aware of is their “trade-in” program. If your Chrony
(or any chronograph) is showing its age and you want to
upgrade, contact them to find out how much your old model is
worth toward the purchase of a new one. Details are available
at: www.shootingchrony.com.
If you go out and shoot, you are going to need to
replenish your supply of ammunition at some point. H & N
pellets out of Germany have introduced several new styles
recently as well as non-lead options. The Rabbit Magnum
Power is available in .177 and .22 weighing 16.05 and 25.77
grains respectively. In their economy line, they offer the
Plinking, Spike and Hammer pellets. H & N does a special
surface treatment on their pellets, removing manufacturing
residues, so no dirty fingers when handling this brand.
Contact them at: www.hn-sport.de. Another player from
that part of the world was showing off their wares. Coal Ltd.
pellets out of Slovenia go by the brand name “White Pellets”
due to the luster on their pellets. Coal claims their pellets
are more consistent in weight, have sharper edges and longer
oversized skirts that form a better seal in the barrel to obtain
the maximum ballistic results. Coal also manufactures a high
velocity pellet in a plastic sabot as their PSP (Plastic/Steel/
Pellets). They are available in the U.S. through A & C Pellets
at: www.air-pellets.com.
